What is the infield fly rule in Fasa? ›

Infield Fly Rule: A batted pop fly in the infield with less than 2 outs when a base runner occupies 1st and 2nd base or 1st, 2nd and 3rd base. When the umpire feels the ball can be caught with reasonable effort by the infield, the umpire will indicate or verbalize the infield fly and the batter is out.

Team Classification A, B, C, or C-REC:

Class C Teams are teams that have a winning percent of less than 50% and a run differential of less than 10 runs. Class B teams are teams that have a winning percentage between 49% and 76% and a run differential of greater than 9 runs.

The essential points to remember are: Pitchers throw from 30 feet at 8U, 35 feet at 10U, 40 feet at 12U, and 43 feet at 14U and older. The softball goes from 11 inches in diameter to 12 inches after 12U. The toughest transition for a pitcher is typically from 12U to 14U, in which she goes from 40 feet to 43 feet.

What happens if you drop an infield fly? Regardless of if the ball is caught or not, once the umpire calls infield fly, the batter is out. The ball is still live and base runners are allowed to advance at their own risk.

If, in an “Infield Fly situation” a fielder can allow a fly ball to drop untouched and possibly turn an easy double-play, then the batter should be called out. If the fly ball is in an area that would not allow for an easy double-play, then odds are good that the Infield Fly should not be called.

A "C" classed team: is a local REC all Star team. A "B" classed team: has players from within a county or 2. Plays mostly within an hour and a half drive. Too good to play in REC all Star tournaments, not quite competitive enough to compete at big events.

Each Men's and Women's team may bat a maximum of 11 players by using an extra player (EP). An (EP) is optional, but if one is used, it must be made known prior to the start of the game and be listed on the team's line-up in the regular batting order. If an EP is used, he/she must be used for the entire game.

As a general rule, all fast pitch softball bats must have a 2 1/4 inch barrel diameter and must not be over 34 inches in length and 31 1/2 oz in weight. Bats must also be marked with the USA/ASA Certified stamp. These bats should perform within the limits of the 98 mph batted ball speed standard.

Playing Rules

No more than 5 runs per inning per team may be scored. Any run crossing home plate after the 5th run will not be counted in innings 1-4. Once the 6th run has been scored and play has stopped, switch sides regardless of the number of outs. The 6th inning (and only the sixth inning) is unlimited runs.

There will be a 15 run mercy rule in effect at the end of 3 complete innings and a 12 run mercy rule after 4 complete innings, and a 10 run mercy rule after 5 complete innings each team can score a maximum of 7 runs per inning(exception: last inning is unlimited).

Umpire Fails to Call Infield Fly (but should have)

A fly ball that meets all the requirements for an infield fly, but is not declared as such, is not an infield fly. Resulting action is allowed; however, the umpires should not allow a double play that the infield fly rule was intended to prevent.
